Storyline
The story is actually set in 1947, following a long-retired Holmes living in a Sussex village with his housekeeper and rising detective son. But then he finds himself haunted by an unsolved 50-year old case. Holmes memory isn't what it used to be, so he only remembers fragments of the case: a confrontation with an angry husband, a secret bond with his beautiful but unstable wife.

This conceivably is one of the most eagerly awaited crime dramas of 2015. And why should it not be? Starring Ian McKellen as an ageing Sherlock Holmes, based on 'A slight trick of the mind 'by Mitch Cullin (a truly gifted writer),it's the cinematically deployed mind mannerisms worth watching out for. First few minutes of the trailer sufficiently elevates the viewer's interest to see Doyle's legendary character many of us grew up with, re imagined virtuously though withdrawn in a farmhouse in Sussex. Over the past decade (to cite recently) we Holmes's fans having dug through many other adaptations of Sir Conan Doyle's creation-Mark Gatiss's Sherlock (best series ever), Elementary, Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes saga and Anthony Horowitz's novels, the recent one featuring Moriarty (amazing read btw), can innocuously think that this particular film potentially can be good. To voyage back in time is discernibly a tedious affair, often round incidents falling in squared places. Nonetheless as foreseeable as it gets, the past nonchalantly always intrigues and irritates even when lying far behind. Old Mr Holmes struggles with senility and confrontation of his distant past of myriad successful cases, fame, Watson's archived instances as he talks about his life in Baker Street to the housekeeper's son and invariably stumbles on an Old case which takes him way back. He may have retired resorting to beekeeping to sail through leisure hours, but once a sleuth… It has always been about the science of deduction. Dir: Bill Condon reuniting with Ian McKellen (screenplay- Jeffrey Hatcher) to re- envision Mr Holmes, it is a brilliantly crocheted story of remembering and sifting through old memoirs to see and find the elementary methods. I imagine myself watching this film on a late drenched scarlet strewn dusk, preferably with a cigar.
